Uff, the title is a bit too long, but that’s exactly the question that people who are just thinking about starting their own blog are often asking. Attention: I will tell you the answer in this entry! I’ll tell you exactly how much time it takes to open a blog and what it looked like for me, about 5 years ago when I was working on a post. Ready?
That may be a trivial start.
Before you start your adventure with blogging, you have to answer one very important question: why do you need this whole blog? Do you want to write from time to time, do not care about a constantly growing group of readers, and in your free time do you prefer to immerse yourself in the depths of Netflix? Wait 10 seconds and then – thanks to you having looked here, but this is not an entry for you. But if you are serious about starting a blog, you want to have more and more community, returning readers, your place in the blogosphere – I would like to invite you.
And here, in fact, I could move on to the substance. How much time does it take to open a blog? Are you ready to answer this question?
A lot. More than you expected when planning your blog.
Recently on LinkedIna I was shown an excerpt from Gary Vaynerchuk’s book, in which Gary points out that starting your own business requires 18 hours a day, often at the expense of holidays or family relationships. blogging may not be so drastic, but still… Blogging in full swing will require you to get involved, to post systematically, to constantly search for new topics for notes, to work with your community in social matters. These are not tasks that you will do in 20 minutes a day. In my prime time, these activities took me between 2 and 3 hours. Daily. 6 days a week. When working full time.
Do you think about starting a blog and writing seriously?
or prepared to write and add entries systematically at least 2 – 3 times a week. When I was working on my blog a few years ago, I often wrote, even every other day. The constant posting of new entries quickly built up a database of faithful readers, but also a lot of new ones appeared, who…
and add entries at least 2 to 3 times a week. When I was working on my blog a few years ago, I often wrote, even every other day. Permanent posting quickly built up a database of faithful readers, but also a lot of new ones appeared, who… made my content available. You can’t upload anything to your blog. Your content must carry a certain value. The more interesting and the more refined the content, the better for you and your readers.
Be patient. Initially invested time will not pay for itself quickly, but I guarantee that as soon as you are systematic, the traffic on the blog will grow and you will become a blogger full of money 🙂
How to write while working as an employee?
I’ll say yes – it’s much easier to write when you’re working as an employee. Why?
When I started writing my blog, I worked in the marketing department on one of the telecoms. My job usually took me 8 hours a day. On my way to and from work, I had about 40 – 60 minutes to read books, industry news, and other blogs. About 6 p.m. I was at home, I took care of my child (yes, I already had a son when I started with a blog), put them to bed between 20:30 p.m. and 21:00 p.m. I sat down in a kompa. Up to 23-1 I blogged.
Someone might think that it was a hard time. And so on. I’m not hiding it, it wasn’t easy after a day in the corpse, sit down again in the computer and still write something wise. But now, when I run my own business, I have much less time for blogging. Your own business is much more engaging than working as an employee when you simply turn off your laptop after 8 hours, which you (usually) leave to work. In the evening you can sit back and write something.
Running your own business counts every minute, in which you can do something for your client, reply to e-mails or prepare an offer. Each of these activities is available at your fingertips, and what’s more, it’s up to you whether you’ll have more or less $$ in your account at the end of the month. Logging in has the lowest priority and simply falls out of your list. That’s why I always repeat – do you work as an employee? This is the best time to start a blog 🙂
How to write while running your own business?
They won’t darken – it’s not easy, although it’s possible. I mean, I only manage it now and I have been running the company for 3 years. At the beginning the blog was without a chance, everything else was more important for me. Only now do I learn to redefine harmony in my life, also in my professional life (by the way, I refer to my entry on multitasking, which ruins my life). What has changed? I survived the worst and most difficult period for me, which Gary also wrote about, i.e. sacrificing everything for my own business. It’s one or two times – thanks to better organization of working time, after the children go to bed (I’ve got my second son), I finally have space to blog. Means, as if I am going back to the starting point 🙂 And here I hope that nothing will change for a long time.
One comment, however, if I had one.
